María Fernández Blanco (Mondariz, 2000) holds a BA in History (2022) and a MA in Contemporary History (2023) from the University of Santiago de Compostela.
She is currently studying for her PhD in the PhD Programme in Contemporary History at the USC. Her thesis focuses on gender discourse and the political participation of rural women in the radical Galician nationalism of the Unión del Pueblo Gallego and the nationalist trade unionism of Comisiones Labregas during the Democratic Transition.
Her lines of interest focus on Gender History, Social History and Feminism. Mainly on the real role of women in the Democratic Transition as social, political and change agents, as well as female participation in political parties, their relations with the Feminist Movement, and the construction of gender discourses. She developed her Master's thesis on this subject under the title Transición en femenino: De las organizaciones de mujeres de la dictadura franquista al feminismo antifranquista y democrático (1960-1989), being this the starting point of her research thesis.
