Book presentation: Luisa Cuesta Gutiérrez: primeira profesora da Universidade de Santiago de Compostela

 

Next Monday, 3 November, there will be a presentation of the latest publication by HISTAGRA-CISPAC researcher Ana Cabana Igleisa and Group collaborator and former doctoral student Aldara Cidrás Fuentes, entitled: Luisa Cuesta Gutiérrez: primeira profesora da Universidade de Santiago de Compostela (Luisa Cuesta Gutiérrez: first female professor at the University of Santiago de Compostela).

 

This work focuses on Luisa Cuesta, a woman whose time at university encouraged others to enrol, even in certain degree programmes considered ‘inappropriate for their gender,’ and to not view university teaching as an insurmountable glass ceiling. The figure and significance of Luisa Cuesta are interesting not only because she was a pioneer herself, but also because her life and professional journey allow us to gain insight into an entire female ecosystem made up of women who, during the same period as her, accessed and completed university studies or managed to integrate into job niches where they had no presence.

 

The presentation, which will take place at 11:00 a.m. in the Salón de Grados of the Faculty of Law, will be attended by the authors, Juan Luis Blanco Valdés, director of Ediciones USC, Ana Mª Gude Fernández, dean of the Faculty of Law, and the event will be closed by the rector of the USC, Antonio López Díaz.
