Book presentation: "Más vale fortuna en tierra que bonanza en la mar" Franquismo y vivienda social para pescadores en Galicia

Next Tuesday, 4 November, at 12:30 p.m., there will be a presentation of the publication: ‘Better fortune on land than bonanza at sea: Francoism and social housing for fishermen in Galicia,’ authored by HISTAGRA members Daniel Lanero Táboas and Xurxo Antelo Alvite.

This book aims to contribute to the knowledge of social housing, specifically that intended for professional sailors, during the Franco regime. However, the research sought to go much further, using the issue of housing as a common thread. In a broader sense, our purpose was to recover and highlight the labour, social and political memory of fishermen, their families and their communities by reconstructing their life stories. Hence the attention we paid to issues such as the work experiences of men and women in the fishing sector, their practices and places of sociability, and the community dimension of everyday life.
