In recent decades, environmental sustainability criteria had a special importance in the definition of technological policies aimed at hyper-intensive dairy farming in Galicia, Spain and in the European Union. Policies that tried to find alternatives to the problems created by the productive model of industrial agriculture developed since the sixties of the twentieth century. Among others, the contamination of soils and aquifers due to the abusive use of fertilizers, nitrates, or waste management.
