A HISTAGRA publication among the best of the year 2020 

 

The work of the HISTAGRA researcher Francisco J. Leira Castiñeira, Soldados de Franco. Forced recruitment, experience of war and military demobilization, has been highlighted by the newspaper El Español, as one of the ten essential history books in 2020. This book was the Miguel Artola Prize in contemporary history.

 

According to the specialists, "Revealing research that fills a historiographical void on the Civil War: the heterogeneous composition of the rebel Army. Francisco J. Leira, doctor in History, shows that among Franco's troops there were many forced soldiers out of fear and terror of the repression and buries the myth of that Spain in harmony and complete unity rose up against the "anti-Spain" ".
